Ecorche sculpture

This summer, I have been taking a course in écorché - artistic anatomy and sculpture. This is my écorché sculpture, with nearly all muscles and bones in the human body. Quite a few of them aren't visible on the sculpture, but are necessary to give the right shape. I've learned so much from this course, it's crazy. Thorough anatomy studies really do pay off.

Renaissance architect and theorist, Leon Battista Alberti recommended that when painters intend to depict a nude, they should first arrange the muscles and bones, then depict the overlying skin.
